Gabigol Secured, Mari to England, Esports Team Upgraded

Updates on Gabigol and Pablo Marí to the Brazilian football club signing with Simplicity to handle their esports division.

According to reports, Flamengo could purchase the remaining 10% of Gabriel Barbosa’s registration rights from Inter Inter Milan in the near future. The Brazilian football club already acquired 90% of the player’s registration rights after their successful deal with Inter that cost them just short of €17 million. The transfer fee, according to Flamengo, will be paid in instalments over the course of Gabigol’s contract with Flamengo. Simply put, Flamengo can purchase the player’s remaining registration rights but only after he reaches certain objectives.

Recently, Gabigol signed a four-year contract with Flamengo where he will play until December 31, 2024. He was already playing for the club – but he was on loan. Nonetheless, it proved to be a very successful loan as the club went on to win the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the Copa Libertadores, as well as participating in the Club World Cup. In that time, he’s played in 58 games, scoring 43 goals and collecting 13 assists.

Meanwhile, Flamengo’s central defender Pablo Mari, signed to be on loan with Arsenal with an additional option to buy in the summer. The player was also with Manchester City in 2016 with Arteta but never actually played. He then went on loan to Girona, NAC Breda and Deportivo La Coruña. Then, on July 2019, he joined Flamengo where he helped the team win the league title and the Copa Libertadores.

With Shkodran Mustafi suffering an injury, Arsenal’s manager has been looking for a substitute centre-back. News then came to Arteta that the injury isn’t as serious as they had thought and that he shouldn’t be out for long. The left-footed Mari has played in 22 top division games across various European leagues: 20 for Breda in the Netherlands with the rest for Mallorca. Edu, Arsenal’s technical director, said, ‘We have been monitoring Pablo’s career for a while and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Flamengo’.

Besides Mari, Arsenal has also made moves to acquire Southampton full-back Cédric Soares. He has six months left in his contract with Southampton and has shown no intention of extending his stay there. This means that the club is open for offers for the player. They would most likely agree to a deal worth at least £5 million. This accounts for the wages that would be saved from the player as well as a large loan fee.

In similar news, Flamengo’s esports division has recently signed a new deal with Simplicity. The deal runs until 2023 with an additional option to renew after it expires. The previous operations were handled by Go4It, whose contract expired in 2019. They will take over Flamengo’s successful League of Legends (LoL) team, who won the Brazilian national championship last year which secured them a spot in the 2019 World Championship Play-In Stage.

Additionally, the team will also be supported by esports outfit Team ONe, allowing them to use ONe Academy facilities for training. Simplicity also recruited Fred Tannure to help manage the project. He recently worked with Flamengo’s esports marketing department. As for the marketing side of the team, OutField will take charge. They are also connected with the team’s football club and Italian Serie A club Milan.
